Normanhurst Public School has two delightful choirs. The junior choir caters for students in Kindergarten to Year 2 and the senior choir is for the senior students of the school, Year 3 to 6.
The junior choir aims to have a fun and fabulous time incorporating song and dance, they meet one lunchtime per week to practise.
The senior choir at Normanhurst Public School is made up of students in Years 3 to 6. The choir meets for rehearsal each Tuesday morning from 8am in the school hall. The conductor and piano accompanist are volunteer parents.
The choir performs a wide range of choral repertoire at various school events throughout the year. These occasions include the Anzac Day service, Education Week school concerts, orientation and open days, presentation day and the annual carols night.
In 2013 students were part of the Argyle concert at The Opera House and have been selected to perform again in 2014. These concerts feature a massed choir of primary students from all over Sydney and Regional Areas and individual performances by instrumental, vocal and dance groups from schools Kindergarten to Year 12. Being involved in these concerts has been a very rewarding and exciting experience.
The aim of the choir program is to encourage the children to enjoy singing with each other, learn interesting repertoire, understand some aspects of choral musical notation and participate in regular performance.
